Jayanthi Kumaresh

Dr. Jayanthi Kumaresh is considered to be one of the leading veena artists today. She began her rigorous training under the guidance of her aunt, Padmavathy Ananthagopalan. She later trained under Dr. S Balachander which greatly embellished her playing techniques. Dr. Kumaresh’s music is said to be a true blend of traditional and innovative – in terms of content, technique, virtuosity and expression. Her playing is characterised by a variety of approaches and an intuitive understanding of the scope of the veena.
She has performed around the globe at venues in the United States, United Kingdom, Paris, Switzerland, Luxemburg, Middle East, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand. Dr. Kumaresh also shared the stage with many great artists including both her gurus, R Kumaresh and Ustad Zakir Hussain. She is a five time recipient of the Best Veena Artiste Award from The Music Academy, Chennai, and was one of the youngest veena artistes to receive the A-Top grading by All India Radio. She was also awarded with the Kalaimamani by the Government of Tamil Nadu, Veena Naada Mani, Sangeetha Choodamani, Sathyashree and Gaana Varidhi, amongst many others.
